Queen's under 19s made up the squad on the night, bolstered by four players with first team experience. David Torrance, Jamie Brough, Andy Boslem and Zander Cowie had all pulled on the first team jerseys in the past, albeit on an irregular basis. Queen's only remaning Dunlop brother, Ross, who also has one game of first team experience also appeared. Scotland Schoolboys captain Steven Saunders, still under 17, also appeared in defence.
Queen's started the game on top and were putting lots of pressure on the St. Pats defence. With only minutes gone Queen's were ahead. Highly rated full back Ray Montgomerie's inswinging corner beating everyone and finding it's way in at the back post to send the Hams into dreamland.
The first half was played out at a frantic pace with stacks of flying tackles, and at points resulted at handbags at dawn. The Queen's youngsters failed to be intimitated by their more experienced opponents. Cowie was called into action twice early in the second half making great stops to deny St Pats.
Queen's secured their place in the final however midway through the second half. A great long ball over the top was ran onto by Torrance, who sent a low drive past the keeper from the edge of the box, to spark frantic on park celebrations. The boys survived a 92nd minute scare as St Pats grabbed one back, but Queen's held on to secure their big day at Hampden on the 25th of May.
