Billy Stark made a few changes from the side which humbled Raith Rovers at Stark's Park two weeks ago. Mark Cairns, nursing shoulder, nose and knee injuries, made way for rookie keeper Scott Murray, Damiano Agostini, ruled out with flu, was replaced by fit again Richard Sinclair and Stuart McGrady was replaced with Robert Dunn due to a foot injury.
Queen's started strongly and both Paul Cairney and Alan Trouten were denied by Stephen Robertson within the opening 20 minutes. Paul Lovering had a couple of headed chances to put United ahead but couldn't convert. Allan Russell and Stephen McKeown also passed up chances for Kenny Black's side.
The excellent McKeown gave Airdrie the lead in the second half with a drive from twenty yards beating Murray all ends up after 47 minutes but Queen's fought back and after 70 minutes got their just rewards.
Trouten chipped the ball to Kettlewell who knocked it down to Dunn. Dunnsy then lobbed it to the back post with his first touch and Mark Ferry slammed it high into the net on the volley with a goal of the season contender.
Dunn had a late chance to hand Queen's victory, but Robert Donnelly blocked his effort. A draw was a fair result in the end.
