Queen's Park started their pre-season with a 2-1 defeat to 1st Division Queen Of The South at The St Aloysius Playing Fields in Stepps.
Queen's lined up in a 3-5-2 formation. Richard Sinclair lining up along side Andy McGinty & Steven Reilly. Steven Gibson and Ross Clark played on the sides with Paul Paton, Paul Harvey & Mark Ferry in the centre. Jonny Whelan partnered young David Weatherston up-front.
Our first chance about ten minutes in. Jonny Whelan struck but his shot was comfortably held by the Doonhamers' keeper.
Mark Ferry then came close for Queen's. Stevie Gibson delivered the cross and Ferry looped it towards goal but the ball was cleared off the line.
Queen Of The South opened the scoring on 38 minutes. A cross found Brian McLaughlin at the back post he took a touch before firing at goal, even though Steven Reilly was able to put a clearing header onto the bar the ball still ended up in the back on the net.
Moments later Qos Doubled their lead. A long ball was played up to no.9 who looked clearly offside but he was allowed to play on. He squared the ball to Brian McLaughlin who fired past Crawford.
At the begining of the second half Crawford managed to prevent the visitors extending their lead, turning a 20 yard free-kick round the post.
In 54 minutes 'The Spiders' got a goal back. Paul Paton put a ball over the top and David Weatherston volleyed past The Qos 'keeper.
Queen's were turned down a stonewall penalty. 14 minutes from the end of the game. There was a blatant handball on the edge of the box and referee Chris Boyle pointed to the spot while everyone stopped he then signalled advantage and in confusion Davie Weatherston fired right at the 'keeper.
A promising performance from a side without several first team players. Which will hopefully be bolstered by a signing or two.
