A Queen's Park XI came close to beating a Stirling Albion side at Lesser Hampden.
But, two late goals sunk the 'Spiders whose side were littered with youth players & trialists. The only established first XI players to start were Tony Quinn, Bryan Felvus & the evergreen Jonny Whelan.
The game kicked off ten minutes early and Queen's were first off the block. The trialist centre-forward was released in the box by McCann, he managed to find the net but the goal was ruled out by offside.
It was Stirling Albion who took the lead though. A corner was flicked on at the near post and a header was spilt by Alex Cowie in the Queen's goal and over the line.
Queen's came close on two seperate occasions but the Stirling 'keeper save both. First from Bryan Felvus & then from Liam McCann.
Moments later Queen's finally did equalise. A ball was played to the trialist forward who rounded the 'keeper and smashed the ball in the back of the net, and this time the flag stayed down.
Sixty seconds later Queen's made it 2-1. The Stirling 'keeper parried the ball out to Liam McCann, who lobbed the ball over a packed penalty area from eighteen yards.
Early in the second half Bryan Felvus had two chances to make it 3-1. He lobbed a lofted through ball at the 'keeper who parried out then the goalie made a fantastic stop from Felvus' rebound.
Another chance was made when Liam McCann powerfully ran through the defence but the keeper was quick off the mark to hold an overhit ball. Also Brendan McIlduf hit the side netting after a short ball from the right.
Stirling scored the equaliser with nine minutes left. A striker tapping home at the far post after a low ball from the right, and it got worse for Queen's in the last minute, when a similar ball was pushed outwards by Cowie and converted by the forward.
Next up is the first competitive match of the season, against Hamilton Accies, in the Bell's Cup.
