SFL 3rd Division - Queen's Park 1 - 0 Dumbarton

Last updated : 21 August 2006 By Andyboy
Queen's Park extended their impressive winning streak to four matches with a hard fought victory over Dumbarton at Hampden Park today, also propelling them to third place in the SFL Third Division.

Queen's chopped and changed the starting eleven once again, Mark Cairns, Jonny Whelan, Paul Ronald and Mark Ferry making way for David Crawford, Stephen Reilly, David Weatherston and Mick Dunlop.

So we lined up in a 4-4-2 formation. DC Dogg was in goals with Paton, Reilly, Agostini and Dunlop in defence, the midfield consisted of Kettlewell, Quinn, Canning and Molloy with Weatherston and Bowers the front two.

Stephen Canning came close when his long range curling effort hit the top of the net, but Dobbie struck back for Dumbarton, striking the bar from range. Other than this though, the bumper 884 crowd had little to get them on their
feet.

Stuart Kettlewell (left) missed a golden chance on 26 minutes, a fine cut back by Richie Bowers was slammed wide by the midfielder when it looked easier to score from twelve yards. David Crawford was then called into action, making a great stop from Dobbie's looping header as the half petered out without anything to raise Hampden in excitement.

HALF TIME: Queen's Park 0 - 0 Dumbarton

The first action of the half called DC into action again, he was forced into making a good two handed stop from the dangerous Bagan as he broke through the defence.

Hampden again fell into a silence, until the introduction of veteran striker Paul Ronald for Richie Bowers, and the big man instantly turned the game, putting pressure on the Sons defence, as abuse from his former fans reined down.

Though Ronaldo played a huge part in the winner, scored on the 70th minute. He easily dispossed a Sons defender, ran up the right and his low dangerous cross was rammed home by on form Steven Canning from twelve yards.

Dumbarton came at Queen's after that, the introduction of Angolan winger Jose Quitongo raising their goal threat, but he blew their best chance as they failed to break through the Spiders rearguard. His tame header easily held by David Crawford, other than this though, Sons offered nothing and Queen's held out for a good, if not thoroughly deserved, 3 points.
