SFL 3rd Division - Dumbarton 0 - 0 Queen's Park

Our suspension woes from last week and further injury troubles where there for all to see at The Rock with Richard Sinclair, Paul Paton and Alan Trouten still ruled out because of their red card shame against the Shire. The three suspended Spiders took part in a noon friendly at Lesser Hampden however to keep their fitness up as Queen's won 3-1 against St Bernards.

Trouten grabbed two of the goals before Trouten's corner was flicked on by Sinclair for Paton to notch up the third. Anyways, they were joined on the sidelines by Mark Cairns, who may require surgery for a shoulder injury, Stephen Reilly, Shaun Molloy, Frankie Carroll and Jonny Whelan.

This meant we were forced to line up in a very similiar fashion as last week personnel wise but we did completely alter our formation and revert to a more familiar 4-4-2. David Crawford was in between the sticks with Steven Canning, Mick Dunlop, Damiano Agostini and the versatile stand in skipper Paul Ronald in front of him. Young Paul Cairney, Mark Ferry, Stuart Kettlewell and Tony Quinn were in the middle with David Weatherston and Richie Bowers up top.

Dumbarton started the brighter and on loan St Johnstone striker Stephen Dobbie made a few good runs at the Spiders defence early on but firstly Paul Ronald and then keeper Crawford dealt with his tame long range efforts. Our first chance didn't come for a while with a Tony Quinn header knocked off the line by Dumbarton's impressive left back Craig Brittain.

Sons came close once more through former Cowdenbeath star Craig Winter and David Weatherston's searching run was brilliantly prevented by the SPL experienced Mark Canning in the Dumbarton backline. Former Sons skipper Paul Ronald, then scooped a close range effort over the bar from Canning's dangerous corner near the end of the half.

We took a blow prior to the second half kick off when midfield battler Tony Quinn succumbed to a knee injury on came wee Tommy Murray in his place for the second period. Paul Cairney, making only his second Queen's start, was proving a persistent pest to the Sons backline and he ripped both David Craig and Brittain to shreds before crossing low for Canning but Stevie's namesake in the Sons line up Mark, got back just in time to touch the ball wide and prevent a certain goal.

Stand in keeper David Crawford was then forced into two terrific full length saves from Brittain and then Craig which he just tipped over the bar. Queen's introduced Robert Dunn for Richard Bowers on 68 minutes but former Sons star Dunnsy failed to contribute greatly when he came on. The contrast was easy to see as the introduction of ex Queen's man John Gemmell and my namesake David McNaught up front and they caused problems, they created chances but couldn't break through the Queen's rearguard.

Queen's gave youngster Chrissy Colquhoun a late debut and he looked impressive showing blistering pace and a good touch, one for the future maybe. It was a very good point for Queen's who now prepare to visit Alligator Park on Tuesday to face the Dirty Rovers who spanked East Stirlingshire 4-0 yesterday. MON THE QP!
