Queen's great recent form continued at Hampden against Berwick Rangers, Tony Quinn's first half strike securing the third win on the bounce for Billy Stark's men.
Queen's started the game well but the best chance fell to Berwick's Garry Wood who forced a good stop from Cairns when one-on-one with the experienced Queen's keeper.
Queen's were playing some nice stuff without creating too many clearcut opportunites and we took the lead on 24 minutes. Mark Ferry's stunning effort was brilliantly tipped onto the bar by Berwick keeper Garry O'Connor and the ball fell to Tony Quinn who with Alan Trouten and David Weatherston also ready to finish behind him, rolled the ball into the empty net to spark pandemonium. A couple more chances went a begging before the break but Spiders went into the interval ahead.
Straight from the interval Queen's were up and at their opponents and Alan Trouten and Mark Ferry were both denied by O'Connor but in all honesty they should have done enough to beat the goalie when unleashed one-on-one on both occasions by the brilliant David Weatherston.
Queen's survived a few late scares, Cairns tipped a brilliant Dave Greenhill header over the crossbar before the other Greenhill brother, Gary hit the bar with a cross-cum-shot from the right. In injury time Denis McLaughlin skimmed the bar with a 30 yard strike but Queen's rode time out and secured a fantastic three points.
