Billy Stark made only one change from the side that trimuphed 2-1 at Gayfield last week, the injured Paul Ronald made way for young David Weatherston up front, and it was Weatherston who opened the scoring after only 3 minutes.
Mark Cairns' goal kick evaded everyone through the middle and Weatherston latched onto it behind the Elgin defence, 30 yards from goal, the youngster looked up and spotted City keeper Renton off his line before lobbing the ball into the net, just under the crossbar.
Queen's could have been three up by the time the clock reached 10 minutes, with Richard Bowers and Stuart Kettlewell missing two glorious chances within three minutes of each other. Great play from Paton and Trouten set Bowers up six yards out but he drilled his low shot gratefully into the keeper's arms before Kettlewell slid the ball wide one on one with Renton, 15 yards out.
Queen's continued to be wasteful, with Mick Dunlop heading over from Paton's corner before Tony Quinn doubled the advantage after 66 minutes. Paton's free kick over to the left was fired high across the six yard box by sub Steven Canning and Quinn gleefully headed home from less than a yard with Weatherston and the impressive also ready to finish incase Quinno made a hash of it. It was Quinno's first Queen's goal since January, when Queen's came up against Elgin away and his headed double secured victory.
And, with ten minutes left, Mark Ferry made sure of the points when he mishit David Weatherston's cross over Renton from ten yards. Fez looked quite embarrased due to how badly he hit the ball, but his team mates didn't seem to care, either did the support as Queen's set themselves up nicely for next weeks clash with promotion rivals Berwick at Hampden.
