Queen's came out of the blocks sharper than their German opponents and were causing all sorts of problems. John Neill was imperious in the early midfield sparring and after having one shot well saved by the 09 keeper a great run created the first goal.
He burst through the defense with great strength before his shot was blocked by the goalie, and Ross Dunlop followed up behind to stick the ball into an empty net, making it 4 goals in 4 pre season appearances. The game lulled for quite a while and only a rainfall of monsoon proportions alerted the fans that a game was going on on the astroturf park. Adam Coakley missed a good chance to make it 2-0 before the half time whistle.
The second half started at a snail's pace but it burst into life on the 48th minute as captain for the day Jamie Brough rattled home from close range, after Martin Ure's corner was knocked down by Andy Boslem. Queen's struggled along in a tousy second half as Wattenscheid became more and more impatient they did pull one back late on after a great double save by Zander Cowie, but Queen's held on for an impressive win.
