Stunning Spiders crush Elgin, Queen's Park 3 - 0 Elgin City

It was important that Queen's used this game to return to form, and bounce back from what had been a dissapointing month of October.

Queen's have only picked up four points and scored three goals, and with important matches at Albion Rovers and East Stirling coming up a victory was desperately needed in today's match against struggling Elgin City.

David Robertson's side have been in a bit of a mess lately, things were looking up when northern moneyman Kenny Black became the new owner, but, after the resignation of a number of board members in the past week the future is looking uncertain for City.

The only problem that Queen's have been experiencing lately is the lack of goalscoring threat being posed by The Spiders, maybe that was what inspired coach Billy Stark to give former Drumchapel Amateurs attacker Tommy Murray his debut at the expense of Kevin Proctor.

Injuries had also rocked Queen's before today's game, Richard Bowers, Bryan Felvus, Ross Clark & Paul Harvey all unavailable, these factors giving young defender Paul Paton his debut at right back.

Queen's started brighter and Kieran Renton was forced to rush from his line to the edge of his eighteen yard box to prevent Alan Trouten early on.

Elgin came closest early with Alan Muir & Martin Johnstone producing great saves from David Crawford, who has been spectacular lately, bouncing back from his howler against Arbroath.

Queen's did take the lead though on the half hour mark great play by new boys Murray & Paton led to Trouten being chopped down in the box by Cumming. This allowed Reilly to beat Renton from the spot for the sixth time in three seasons and make it 1-0.

Moments later Queen's extended their lead to 2-0. A brilliant cross by Paul Paton travelled 60 yards before Alan Trouten looped a volley over Renton who was caught in no-mans land by the stunning pass from the right back Paton.

Elgin looked to make a game of it in the second half making two changes but their constant lumping of the ball was being handled well by the defensive duo of Steven Reilly & Richard Sinclair.

Queen's still looked threatening and wrapped up the game midway through the half, Mark Ferry recieved a ball from Kettlewell, he turned the defender three times before blasting past Renton with his favoured right foot.

By this time the Elgin side were looking very agitated and how a number of their players escaped a red card from referee Colin Brown is beyond this correspondent, Jonny Whelan being brutally chopped down by Elgin City's number two.

Queen's picked up a good result before the important matches against Dirty Rovers and East Stirling. This performance will give manager Billy Stark a few headaches, where do Ross Clark & Paul Harvey fit back in to the side?, will he keep faith with the impressive debutants Tommy Murray & Paul Paton? Questions that will be answered in the Bonfire Night derby at Cliftonhill next week.
